El Convento de San Francisco was founded in the city of León in 1639, by Reverend Fray Pedro de Zúñiga. This was the first convent of the city.
In 1995 the project of the Hotel El Convento begins with the acquisition of the property. They began the construction of the hotel, whose design tries to respect the architecture and colonial details that the building had at the time of the Convent of San Francisco and the National Institute of the West, with certain modifications necessary to allow the proper functioning and services of a modern hotel.
This important work is done thanks to the collaboration of citizens who contributed photographs of the time and their stories. In this way it is possible to rescue an emblematic building that housed important figures of Nicaraguan history.
